Mittal in talks over RI investments

LONDON ArcelorMittal, the worlds biggest steelmaker, held "preliminary discussions" with the Indonesian government over potential investments in the country.

The talks are "ongoing," ArcelorMittal spokesman Haroon Hassan said today in an e-mailed statement.

The Luxembourg-based company plans to build a 2.5 million- metric ton steel plant in Cilegon, western Java, with state-nm PT Krakatau Steel, Bisnis Indonesia said Thursday, citing Industry Minister Pahmi Idris. The steelmaker is also planning a joint venture with PT Aneka Tambang to explore for iron ore, nickel and other metals, the newspaper said. - Bloomberg
